Advisory
Fractional CTO
Senior technology leadership, sized to where your business actually is.
Companies that have outgrown ad-hoc technology decisions but do not yet need — or cannot yet justify — a full-time CTO.
Sound familiar
Where this usually starts
- Technology decisions are being made by whoever is closest to the problem, not by whoever can see the whole picture.
- You are paying for software you are not sure you need, on contracts nobody has read in two years.
- Your team ships, but nobody can tell you what it will cost to double the business.
- You need someone in the room who can translate between the board and the build.
The work
What we actually do
- Set a technology roadmap the business can actually fund and staff.
- Own vendor selection, contract review, and renewal negotiation.
- Sit in on leadership and board conversations, and translate in both directions.
- Plan the team: what to hire, what to outsource, what to stop doing.
- Hold the budget to account — what it buys, and what it should buy next year.
- Provide a senior escalation point when something breaks or a decision stalls.
How it runs
Typically two days a week, adjusted to your stage
Month to month after an initial commitment
A named senior advisor, written decisions, and a live roadmap
On site in the Upstate; remote elsewhere
Scope
What this is not
Knowing where an engagement stops is worth as much as knowing where it starts.
- Not a managed service provider. We do not run your help desk or your network.
- Not a staffing firm. You get one senior advisor, not a bench of juniors.
- Not a reseller. We sell no software and take no referral fees.
Common questions
About fractional cto
How is this different from hiring a consultant?
A consultant delivers a report. A fractional CTO carries the decision and lives with the consequences. We stay in the seat long enough to see the roadmap through, and we are accountable for the same things a full-time CTO would be.
At what size does this make sense?
Usually when technology spend or technology risk has grown past what the leadership team can reason about on the side of their desk. That happens at very different headcounts in different industries, which is why the first conversation is free.
What happens when we are ready for a full-time CTO?
We help you write the role, run the search, and hand over cleanly. Working ourselves out of the seat is a normal ending, not a failure.
